On Fridays, I play soccer, I play with my cat, I study, I read magazines, I run, I exercise, I eat dinner with my parents, I call my friends on the phone, I call my grandparents, I watch a little television and I have a snack

On Saturdays, I like to sleep late. I eat breakfast with my family. I watch cartoons.

On Sundays, I also like to sleep late. I read the newspaper with my family. I go to my grandparents' house.

On Sundays, I get my allowance from my parents. Sometimes, I buy ice cream.

On Mondays, I like to sleep late, but I can't. I need to go to school!

  Unlike in the U.S.A., in the U.K. and in Australia soccer is called football.

  An allowance is a weekly amount of money kids may get from their parents. Not all kids get this money.
  Sometimes they get it just for spending money and sometimes they must earn it by doing chores like cleaning or  washing the car. It is called pocket money in Australia.
What are you doing this week?

This week, on Tuesday, I am going to the library. My friends and I are not going to see each other.

  On Saturday and Sunday, we are going to my Grandma's   house.

  On Wednesday, let's play soccer. Okay?

  On Thursday, let's go to the movies. Okay?
                 
  3. B. Numbers 1-31.
Today is Wednesday, August 9 (ninth). It is my mother's birthday. We are going to a restaurant. Happy Birthday,Mom!

On Thursday, May 2 (second), I want to go to my friend's house for a party but I can't.
I need to study.

On December 25 (twenty fifth), many people in the world celebrate Christmas. Merry Christmas!

On January 1 (first), many people celebrate the New Year. Happy New Year!


Ninth is day nine of the month. In English you use the ordinal (ranking) numbers for the dates, not the cardinal (counting) numbers. A list is given in this unit in Constructing New Meanings, section D. In the U.K. and Australia, you would write the date 9 August.
In the U.S.A., kids call their mother Mom. In the U.K. and Australia, kids call her Mum.
  3. C. Let's learn the rest of the months and the   seasons.

    In the northern hemisphere where the U.S. and the U.K.     are,

  Remember that Australia is south of the equator and has the opposite    seasons. So when it is spring in the U.S.A. or the U.K., it is autumn (fall) in Australia.
March, April and May are in SPRING.
What is the color of spring? -Green for grass.
June, July and August are in SUMMER
What is the color of summer? -Blue for water.
  September, October and November are in FALL.
  What is the color of fall? -Orange for pumpkins.

  December, January and February are in WINTER.
  What is the color of winter? -White for snow.

  Fall. In the U.K. and Australia, this season is known as autumn. Don't forget: in Australia, autumn would be the
  months of March, April and May, what is spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
     
  3. D. The colors.
  Red, green, blue, yellow, orange, pink, purple, brown, white, black
    What is your favorite color ?
    -My favorite color is blue.
    What is yours?

  In the U.K. and Australia, this would be spelled favourite colour.


  What is your mom's favorite color?
  -Her favorite color is red.
  What is your dad's favorite color?
  -His favorite color is green.
  What are the colors of the flag of the U.S.A., the U.K.,   Australia and New Zealand?
  -Red, white and blue. And Canada?
  -Red and white.
  3. E. Time of day.

    Excuse me, what time is it? -It is 7:30 in the morning.      Time for breakfast!
    Excuse me, what time is it? -It is 12 o'clock. (It is noon.)      Time for lunch!
    Excuse me, what time is it? -It is 4:15 in the afternoon.
     It is teatime!
    Excuse me, what time is it? -It is 6:45 in the evening.
     Time for dinner!
    Excuse me, what time is it? -It is 10 o'clock.
     Time for bed!

  Australians call the British teatime "afternoon tea. " They sometimes call dinner tea.

    There are other ways to give the time. Some people say:

    It is 6:15 in the morning and others say It is 6:15 a.m.
    It is 12 p.m. = It is noon. It is 12 a.m. = It is midnight.
   
  3. F. To say when something happens.
  At 7:30 a.m., I eat breakfast.
  At noon, I eat lunch.
  At 4:15 p.m., people in England have tea.
  At 6:45 p.m., my family eats dinner.
  At 10:00 at night, we go to bed.
